Lemon Madness

Enjoy a cup of warm lemon water with a pinch of cayenne in the morning, every morning. It’s that simple. It will improve your morning by giving your digestion process a kick-start for the day. The healing philosophy of Ayurveda teaches that health and wellbeing depends upon our ability to properly digest everything we take in. So many health and beauty issues have been linked to a poor digestive system. There are many health benefits of lemons that have been known for centuries. The two biggest are lemons’ strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers, and they are a great digestive aid/liver cleanser. Lemons contain substances like citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, pectin, and limonene that promote immunity and fight infection. The cayenne is not just for show. Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus, gets our blood flowing and is also great for your complexion.

It’s a simple, yet effective way to revitalize your body and mind. The choices that we make regarding our daily routine either build up resistance to disease or tear it down. If you can take time for one morning ritual that will improve your health, this should be it!

I prepare my lemon tea just before I start getting dressed. Other than that, my morning routine is virtually untouched. I take sips while shuffling around, applying my makeup and picking what to wear. By the time I’m ready to put my shoes on, there is one last sip left and I’m out the door.

I have been doing this for over six months and here’s what happened…

  • I did not get one cold or the flu all winter (I tend to I catch colds easily so this was amazing for me)
  • My digestion improved and I started become more “regular”

Use purified water and it should be lukewarm not scalding hot (avoid ice cold water). Always use fresh lemons, never bottled lemon juice.

  • Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a coffee/tea cup (wrap the other half of the lemon and save for the next morning.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a couple drops of cayenne extract (whichever you prefer or have available). This will stimulate circulation and neutralize acidity.
  • Add warm water until cup is almost full.
  • Drink first thing before eating a single thing or workout, etc.
  • Get on with your day, you have lots to do!
